Doggy Daycare Myths You Should Know

Updated: Aug 28, 2023

With firsthand experience working in multiple dog daycares, I've uncovered surprising truths that have led me to create The BFF Club, a place where genuine pet care thrives. In this article, we'll debunk common myths surrounding dog daycare and boarding and discover why private pet sitting and dog walking offer superior alternatives.

myth 1: doggy Daycares are Filled with Trained Dog Lovers

Reality: It's a misconception that all dog daycare attendants are highly trained and deeply care for your dog's well-being. Unfortunately, many doggy daycares employ attendants at minimum wage with minimal to no training. A clock-in, clock-out mentality can overshadow genuine care. If a dog poses challenges, they might be confined to a kennel for a majority of the day, prioritizing the attendant's convenience over your pet's needs. While exceptions exist and there are good dog daycare attendants who will care for your dog, from my experience, this issue also exists.

BFF Reality: At The BFF Club, we're dog lovers too, but what sets us apart from the daycare facilities that say the same? The key lies in the motivation. Our BFF Buddies are incentivized to provide top-notch service, not by hourly wages, but through repeat services. We're committed to transparency – utilizing the Time to Pet app for real-time updates and readily available communication. Our updates, including pictures and videos, can be tailored to your preferences, ensuring you're always connected.

myth 2: Holding doggy Daycares Accountable for Dog Injuries

Reality: The reality is often far from what dog owners assume. In California, dogs are considered property. If your dog gets injured, the doggy daycare might be held accountable only for the amount you paid for your pet. Also, if your dog harms another dog, you might bear the responsibility, not the daycare. Due to this lack of accountability, there can be a lack of motivation for doggy daycares to prioritize the well-being of your dog.

BFF Reality: Private walks, pet sitting, or private daycare inherently minimize injury risks, because, simply put, there are less dogs to supervise. Private walks, private daycare, and/or sitting offers one-on-one care that doggy daycares aren't able to offer since their business structure is based around having a high quantity of dogs. Further, we only affiliate with BFF Buddies who have extensive experience in dog rescues, dog behavior, and/or pet sitting. It is important to us to see dogs as fellow beings with emotions, aiming to understand what motivates them. This empathy-driven approach allows us to customize care to ensure wagging tails!

myth 3: Ensured Socialization at doggy Daycares

Reality: Socialization is only beneficial when managed by detail-oriented attendants. Inadequately supervised interactions in daycares can lead to increased aggression or anxiety. For instance, an incessantly barking dog pushing yours to play, if not monitored by an attendant, can result in your dog snapping, ultimately causing your dog to mistake aggression for safety.

BFF Reality: Individual human-to-dog attention significantly reduces anxiety and facilitates behavior correction. At The BFF Club, though we are not dog trainers, we recognize that reactivity stems from either fear or frustration. Once identified, we tailor care to make your dog most comfortable while you're away. If you're looking for more socialization, ask about our unique buddy system which pairs BFF dogs for controlled play, ensuring positive socialization experiences while respecting individual preferences.

Conclusion: Through the journey of dispelling myths, The BFF Club emerges as a beacon of trust, empathy, and exceptional care. Our commitment to transparency and individualized attention reinforces our dedication to your pet's happiness and well-being. Experience the difference with us – where your BFF is treated as part of the family.
